“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”

(Luk 24:27).

The reason why we have the Old Testament isn’t to point us to the laws of Moses or the ordinance of the Jews. It is to point us to Christ. The New Testament is in the Old Testament concealed. The Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed. What were figures and mysteries in the Old Testament, have been clearly revealed to us in the new. An understanding of this strengthens your faith and makes you a more effective witness.

There are hundreds of prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament. Today, we’d be looking at some of them. Note that he fulfilled them all.

He was to be born of a virgin-Isaiah 7:14…

He was to be born in Bethlehem-Micah 5:2

He would perform miracles-Isa 9:5

Isa 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

He would be betrayed by His friend Psalm 41:9

The betraying friend would be paid thirty pieces of silver-Zech 11:12-13

He would be beaten, mocked and spat on-Isa 50:6

He would be crucified (Psalm 22:16)

*This particular point should be taken very seriously because, as at the time the prophecy was made, crucifixion had not yet been invented.

He would die (Isaiah 53:8)

He will be buried in the tomb of the rich (Isaiah 53:9)

He will resurrect (Psalm 16:10)
