“Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord”

(Rom_6:11)

Yesterday, we mentioned that the Apostle Paul prayed that we would know “what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” (Eph 1:19,20).

The death of Christ was necessary for our redemption, but it is the revelation of his resurrection that empowers us to live above sin. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is all the information you need to break free from any habit. As we continue our study of the book of Ephesians, I’ll show you why.

Paul continues by saying that Christ is “seated in heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all(Eph 1:21-23). This refers to the power and authority given to Christ. But look closely and you’ll see who the power and authority is for. It’s for the church, his body, everyone who believes. He is seated in heavenly places and we are seated with him. His power is for you, dear believer. Every principality, power, might, and dominion, is under our feet because we are in Christ. Sin has no power over us; it is under our feet.
