WISDOM IN EVANGELISM

“Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.” Acts 6:3

The word ‘and’ in our opening text is the word ‘Kai’ which plays the role of colon in English. The word ‘and’ many times in scriptures is used to say the same thing in the two different ways. For instance, Eph 1:3 says “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, ….” God and Father are not two different people, but the same person called in two different ways.

The simple principle behind this is that usually, you’ll see the definite article ‘the’ before the first noun and then a conjunction. So when you see this, you can have a proper context as to what a passage of scripture is saying.

Our opening scripture clearly reveals the twelve instructing the other believers to look among themselves for people who are full of the Holy Ghost and Wisdom. So, here the twelve appear to be equating the Holy Ghost with wisdom, or more accurately equating the Holy Ghost with a specific manifestation of the Spirit required for leadership. He is talking about Wisdom being a requirement for leadership.

One of the men selected for this responsibility was Stephen. Let’s see what the scriptures say about him. “And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. ‭‭Acts‬ ‭6:8-9

Verse 10 speaks of the aforementioned wisdom in operation. “And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.” Acts 6:10

Here, we see the manifestation of the wisdom that we were told earlier on that Stephen had. We also see the importance of the wisdom.

In an age where persecution is the order of the day, wisdom becomes imperative for ministry. Wisdom in words, wisdom to say the right words at the right time, wisdom to say what can neither be gainsaid or resisted.

We see the Lord Jesus prophesy about the manifestation of this wisdom. “And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.”‭‭ Luke‬ ‭12:11-12‬

This is why the ministry of prayer can’t be neglected. Via prayer, the wisdom of God is stirred up in us. Evangelism becomes cheap when we speak the right words to our hearers.

Pray fervidly today and step out knowing the right words are on your lips.

Say This: The wisdom of God is at work in me. I know what to say at every point in time. The right words to speak are on my lips always. Hallelujah!
