Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:3

Like we discussed yesterday, it’s a real blessing for a person to realize that he is poor in spirit.
Not everybody does! Self exaltation is the order of our day.

The ‘world’ subtly teaches us to trust and be content with self. But feel the resounding words of Jesus to Laodicea:

“Thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked”. (Rev 3:17)

Many times, material abundance has the tendency to blind one from recognizing spiritual deficiency.

Thankfully, the scriptures informs us of people, who in spite their abundant riches cry out desperately for God. Think of Zacchaues, who would go so far as to climb a tree to see Jesus. We’re talking about a man of means here!

As he sees Jesus, without being asked, he repents: “And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.” (Luke 19:8).

What was Jesus’ response? “This day is salvation come to this house… “Greed ends where self-sufficiency ends! When self-sufficiency ends, and trust in Christ comes, salvation comes.

Do you feel such insufficiency in yourself? Does it drive you to Christ? Blessed are you! The Kingdom of heaven belongs to a man who is poor in spirit, for “…They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick” (Matthew 9: 12). Seek God above things!

ACTION POINT: Have you placed anything or person above God? Redirect your steps today and let God know in prayer, that by His grace, you’d desire Him above all else.
