For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
The Lord Jesus repeatedly prioritized spiritual relationships over natural biological relationships. This doesn’t in any way downplay biological relationships.
Spiritual relationships are the lens through which biological relationships and every other relationship will truly count. What greater way can we love our siblings but with the love of Christ?
What connects us in Christ is stronger. After one of the teachings of Jesus, a certain woman who was overwhelmed by his wisdom said:
“…Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked”
The Lord’s response was rather interesting. He said: “But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it”.
On another occasion, He was told that His mother and brothers were standing outside of a certain room where he was teaaching. They were waiting to see Him. Jesus clarified again:
“For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.”
This is why we must all belong to a spiritual family. It is God’s plan for us all.
We must have believers with whom we feel as much at home as with biological family, and more. Prayerfully search for the right place.
