SHATTERED RECORD

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
Romans 8:38-39

A Christian who has been properly taught knows that his perception of God should not be tainted by the situations he might be facing in life. God is always good, regardless of the situation.

The Bible in Matthew 13:44 likens the Kingdom of heaven to a treasure hid in a field which a man finds and joyfully sells all that he has to buy the field. If you can give everything for the Kingdom, it becomes inconsistent for your faith to be shaken when you lose something, or even ‘everything’.

However, does this then mean that we should not trust God for things? What happens when God tells us something concerning a particular situation but it doesn’t seem to happen that way? We have already established that our faith in God should not be dependent on situations, but does it mean we don’t hold God to his word?

Abraham was in such a situation. In Genesis 15:2-6, God promised childless Abram that his descendants would be as many as the stars in the sky.

The bible says that “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” ‘Nothing happened!’.

Abram’s wife begins to pressurize him and Ishmael is born by her maid, Hagar. In Genesis 17, Ishmael is already thirteen years old, and God’s promise has not yet been fulfilled.

Yet God still reiterates his promise to Abram and asks him to change his name to Abraham; father of nations. Years passed, and there is still no baby.

In Genesis 18, three men come to Abraham’s house to remind him of God’s promise. He and his wife Sarah are well stricken in age, Sarah even laughs at the prospect of conception. God’s word must have sounded like a shattered record to her.

But guess what, Isaac shows up a year later. What has God told you that seems to have been delayed for so long? Stay in faith, keep believing, God always keeps his promise.
