Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
Colossians 4:5

From our opening text, we are instructed to redeem the time. The Greek word for redeeming the time is translated to mean “to buy back time from the possession or power of anyone” or “to set your time free as from bondage”.

Thus, redeeming the time simply means to recover your time from things that waste your time. There are things that stall your commitment to the things of the Spirit.

Apostle Paul restates the same thing in His letter to the believers at Ephesus.

Eph 5:16 – Redeeming the time because the days are evil

So, we ought to have seasons in our lives called special seasons of devotion where we take out time to give attention especially to the things of the Spirit such as Bible study and prayer. This is especially very important for those with very busy schedules who have little or no time for devotion, you may even consider taking leave so as to devote your time especially to the Word and prayer.

Many times when we talk of fasting, food is not the only problem. At times we need to take a break from social media, chatting or even calling so as to give prayer the attention it deserves. This is also part of redeeming the time.

Apostle Paul told Timothy in 1Tim 4:16 to take heed to himself. We must learn to take heed to ourselves that is to pay attention to the state of our soul. This must be our consistent concern; we are to give Prayer and The Word first place in our lives.

SAY THIS: I heed to the ministry of prayer and The Word. I redeem my time. I set it free from bondage.
