“For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.”
1 Corinthians 15:16-17
For a couple of days now, we’ve looked at the gospel, the death of Jesus, and are currently discussing the resurrection of Jesus. We’ve seen how the resurrection of Jesus gives credence to the fact that any man who believes in Christ and His redemptive work receives eternal life.
In the opening scripture, Apostle Paul informs the church at Corinth that anyone who suggests that there is no resurrection of the dead, automatically suggests that Christ Jesus was not raised from the dead. He further explains the implication of Christ not being raised from the dead.
“And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.” 1 Cor 15:17
There are two important details that Apostle Paul highlights from the above statement. Firstly, Apostle Paul informs us that the very essence of our faith rests on the resurrection of Christ. He also informs us that we are still in our sins if Christ Jesus wasn’t raised from the dead.
“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;” Ephesians 2:1
How were we quickened? By the resurrection of Jesus.
Eph 2:5-6 further emphasizes this reality. It says “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:”
Hallelujah! We know Christ was raised from the dead and that via His death and resurrection, our sins were blotted, we were quickened from the hold of sin and made alive to sit with Him in heavenly places. We were once dead in sins, but now we are dead to sins.
This is what Easter is all about! It’s about what Christ has done for us and more so, in us.
Go out today with the message of Christ’s death burial and resurrection. It’s our responsibility to tell it unreservedly.
SAY THIS: The very essence of my faith rests on Christ’s resurrection. Via Christ’s resurrection, my sins have been taken away. I am alive in Christ Jesus.
