NO LONGER UNDER BONDAGE

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”
John 8:32-34

Before Christ came, the entire creation was under bondage. However, the advent of Christ and His work brought forth the dispensation of the Spirit.

Rom 8:15 carefully informs us that what we received at the new birth isn’t the spirit of bondage again to fear.

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15

He uses the word ‘AGAIN’ because that was what was in operation prior to the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:1.

This is a clear parallel to our opening scripture. Firstly, Apostle Paul says be not entangled ‘AGAIN’- the same expression used in Rom 8:15.

The context of ‘not being entangled again’ was a call to depart from the bondage of works- or the works of the law.

The church at Galatia had received Christ, had the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and saw the working of miracles in their midst, yet was returning to the works of the law.

“O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”
Galatians 3:1-3

Jesus in response to our opening scripture says in John 8:36 “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

Hallelujah! We who have believed have been made free in Christ via faith in the provision of salvation.

While we are no longer under the bondage of sin or the bondage of works, the unbeliever still is.

It’s our responsibility to help them out of bondage. We were set free to set others free also, and we do so via the gospel’s message.

SAY THIS: I have been set free from bondage. I am committed to set others free via the message of the Gospel.
