“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”
Too many people underestimate the place of a local assembly, clinging to the ideology that going to church does not make you a Believer. While this is true in a sense, the fact remains that going to church makes you grounded as a Believer.
The word ‘Church’ is gotten from ‘Ekklessia’ in the Greek which literally means ‘called out to association.’ God wants everyone who is called out to fellowship with one another.
This is why you realise that throughout the Bible, baptism into Christ is baptism into his body. You’re not saved to remain on your own, but to be a part of the body of Christ.
Let’s take a look at Acts 2:41-42: “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.”
When people got saved in the early church, they weren’t left on their own. No! They were added to the number of disciples. In fact, at that time, they all lived together. Christianity is marked by fellowship. You can’t claim to be a believer if you don’t love to fellowship with other believers.
People who believed the gospel in the early church were together as a family. You must treat fellow believers in Christ as family. If you can be patient with your biological family, you should show even more patience to other believers.
It is also important to note that the bible expressly rebuked not belonging to an assembly.
Take a look at today’s text. The writer of Hebrews is telling us that it’s wrong to forsake meetings. Another thing you will see from verse 24 is that assemblies, meetings, fellowships stir you up, they sharpen you, they provoke you unto good works. No believer can function alone.
Some others might insist that they have fellowship with their friends. But see what the bible says in Hebrews 13:7.
“Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.”
This is not talking about your WhatsApp group where everybody is giving their own opinion and nobody might be really growing. There must be an Overseer, a trained pastor or leader you can be accountable to.
This is the order God set in motion. We must align wholly to it. The Church is God’s created platform for your growth and edification in Christ!
SAY THIS: I believe and follow God’s plan for my life. I believe His church is His platform for my growth. I yield to leadership!
