“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed”
You’ve heard people say time and again that the devil made them do some things they were not supposed to do. While they seem to have a point, this isn’t necessarily the case.
Rather, “…each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.” (James 1:14). That’s right!
The problem is generated by the lust of the flesh in man. The reason temptations are temptations is that they appeal to the things the flesh longs for. The flesh only wants things that are contrary to the will of the Spirit.
So, why do people fall to sin? They are enticed by inordinate desires in themselves, and instead of resisting with the word of God, they pay attention to those desires, fanning the flame of lust until sin is born.
“…when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin…” (James 1:15).
Don’t let sin take its place within you. One way to ensure that is to make sure you don’t engage in activities that fan the flame of lust.
The solution to this is a gradual but intentional process of putting the flesh to death:
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
The scriptures are replete with instruction for believers to walk in the Spirit. The Lord Jesus spoke about this. Apostle Paul spoke about this.
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”
“…if through the power of the Holy Spirit you are (habitually) putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the evil deeds prompted by the body, you shall (really and genuinely) live forever.” (Romans 8:13 AMP).
This week and always, make it a point of duty to stay aglow by walking in the Spirit.
I walk in the Spirit this week. I cut off association with anything or person causing the flesh to thrive within me.
