“And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” ‭‭
2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:15‬ ‭

Yesterday we discovered two reasons why believers don’t evangelize. Today, we will talk about the third and popular reason.

The third reason why believers don’t evangelize is summed up in one word: FEAR. Some believers do not evangelize simply because they are afraid to.

Sadly, even believers who have been taught on the necessity and eternal relevance of evangelism, and know how to evangelize use this as an excuse.

Without over-stretching the problem, we’ll talk about four reasons why we should (and can) overcome that fear.

These reasons should serve as a solution. We’ll discuss two of those reasons today. The first reason why we must overcome the ‘fear’ associated with evangelism is that we don’t have an option.

Evangelism was a mandate given to us by God! You don’t negotiate an assignment given to you by your boss or parents (and I don’t mean wrong assignments), how much more God?

Our opening text talks about the fact that the life we now live should be lived for the one who died for us and rose again. Hence, if Christ gave His life for us via His death, the onus is on us to live our lives for Him.

The concluding verses of 2 Cor 5 explicitly inform us of the ministry we have received: “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” ‭‭
2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:18-19

Apostle Paul says God GAVE US the ministry of reconciliation as well as COMMITTED UNTO US the WORD of reconciliation.

The second reason why a believer should and can overcome the ‘fear associated’ with reaching out is the fact that too much is at stake- lives depend on it.

The fact that people’s lives in view of eternity depend on it should create a burden in your heart and should make you become more proactive in your evangelistic ministry.

“Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.” ‭‭
2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:11‬.

There is a coming terror and it is our responsibility to inform men of the safety and provision made available in Christ. Today and always, we persuade men because their eternity is on the line.

We persuade men because love and compassion overwhelm our hearts. Fear can’t hold us back!

SAY THIS: Fear has no hold on me. Love and compassion find expression through me! I have received a ministry in the Lord and I fulfil it.
