“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Today, we are going to be looking at the very content or news a man needs to hear and believe in order to be saved.
Our opening text is one of the most popular scripture in the entire bible, yet many have failed to see it for what it really is.
Jesus speaking in John 3:16 explicitly says that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. What does it mean to believe in Him?
To believe in Christ means to believe in His work. By believing in His work, man becomes a beneficiary of it.
Apostle Paul expatiates in Romans 10:9-10. He says “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
In the fourth chapter of the book of Romans, Apostle Paul talks about the gospel, what it means to believe in Christ, as well as makes a very vital point in explaining how like Abraham, we benefit from Christ’s work.
“Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”
Hallelujah! All we needed to do to be delivered from our offences and justified in the sight of God was simply believe in Him i.e. believe in His work.
In summary, man is saved by believing in Jesus’ death and His resurrection from the dead. This is the gospel, the good news is specific!
That’s why I define the gospel this way: The Gospel is that God has fulfilled His plan to accept the death of His Son as the propitiation for the sins of mankind, He has raised Him from the dead, and has ever since bestowed eternal life on everyone who believes in Him.
Go out today with the message of the gospel!
SAY THIS: I believe in the message of the gospel, therefore I have eternal life. I believe that he died for my sins and was raised back to life for my justification.
