“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth”
If you aren’t one yourself, you probably know someone who is a football enthusiast. You should see such persons when they are watching a match; their entire bodies and emotions are involved.
Even more, the things of God should effortlessly command your delight. Many people’s picture of the Christian experience is simply a dutiful one, but God would have you delightful.
All through the Bible, love for God and fellowship with the brethren are described as delightful.
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.”
Matthew 13: 44
There is a disposition you have to things that you enjoy, even when they involve work. If you enjoy cooking, you can spend hours upon hours in a hot kitchen and still feel blissful.
If you like to work out, the gym might seem like pleasure to you. If you like to play an instrument, you could spend hours practicing and not realize that you haven’t eaten.
You should have an even greater disposition to the things of God. Prayer time should be something you look forward to. Going to church should be something you wouldn’t miss for the world.
Evangelizing to others should be something you look upon with relish. Let your emotions go in the direction of God’s spirit on your inside.
SAY THIS: I delight myself in the things of God. Nothing else excites me more than living for Christ.
