“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love” (Ephesians 1:4).
A lot of people think that God gave the children of Israel the law only to discover that people couldn’t live by it, and that’s why He Introduced grace. Paul refutes that claim thus: “And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect” (Galatians 3:17). Righteousness through faith (which we call the new covenant) came four hundred and thirty years before the law was given! That’s how much older God’s promise to Abraham is when compared to the law!
Faith in Christ was always the plan. The bible says, “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will” (Ephesians 1:4-5). God chose us to be in Christ before the world was ever formed. His plan for a relationship with man was always through adoption in Christ.
Even when the law came, it did not replace God’s original plan. A lot of people were justified by faith in that era, and Hebrews 11 is a compendium of some of them. Saints of old were saved by believing in Jesus and what He would do. We are saved by believing in Jesus and what He has done. Jesus didn’t recently become the way. He has always been.
