“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me”

(John 15:4).

Many people want fruitfulness in their walk with God but do not know how to go about it. Jesus says: “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).

Your fruitfulness is in your ‘abiding’. One can only require from his body what it is ‘conditioned’ to do. There is a ‘law’ in your body that wars against the law of God (see Roman 7:23), and tries to draw you irresistibly into sin. For that law not to hold sway, the word of God will have to abide in you.

Jesus says again: “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7). The context here is fruitfulness. If the word of God abides in you, you can place a demand on what you want to see and it will be  done. With the word of God in you, you can refuse bitterness, anger, selfishness and every work of the flesh. , You can insist on God’s word which says that you are a new creature in Christ, and that becomes your experience. My advice for you today is this: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16). Keep your mind on the word of God today.
