“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”
From yesterday’s teaching, we understand that man is in a fallen state. The desire for wickedness (great and small) is at the core of man’s being. This fallen state is the reason for sickness and death. Man was never created to die! Sin brought death (Romans 5:12).
That’s why we need freedom. Guess what? Jesus promises freedom! He said: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). How did Jesus intend to separate man from sin? Man had become as entangled with sin like an alloy which derived from the chemical mixture of two metals. “The wages of sin is death!” (Romans 6:23a). If man would be free from sin, someone had to die his death. Who would be so generous and selfless to die for mere sinners?
Man was lifeless and undeserving, yet, “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). The ‘most worthy’ made Himself a substitute for the ‘most undeserving.’ Oh what grace!
Lord Jesus, thank You for the freedom your death affords me. I receive it wholeheartedly, declaring that I am free indeed. Amen.
