“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”
The ‘most worthy’ God gave His life for the ‘most worthless’ of creation. Man, after the fall was most miserable of all creation because no other creation of God ever committed treason against Him. On the contrary, every other creation of God has suffered because of us. The fall is the reason we have wild animals today. No animal was created wild. The fall is the reason we have natural disasters. They aren’t ‘acts of God’; they are results of the fall.
Yet God made Jesus Christ die for us. If you think this through well enough, a big question that should come to mind is ‘WHY?’ Today’s text shows us why: “God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Love is the reason! God let Jesus die for you because He loves you.
Now the world’s most popular scripture should make sense to you: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son…”(John 3:16). Love moved God to offer His ‘only’ begotten son for you. Son, daughter, God loves you!
Father, I thank you for demonstrating your love to me by sending your son to die for me. I respond to your love by my faith in the redemptive work of your son on the cross for me, in Jesus’ name, amen.
