“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”

(John 3:16).

If someone asked you what the gospel is, what would you say? Many people define the good news of the Gospel thus: “God sent Jesus to die for our sins, and He raised him up on the third day.” To this, most lay men will respond: “How is that good news to me?” You see, the good news isn’t exactly what Jesus did, but what it brought us in particular, namely: Eternal Life. The latter part of John 3:16 says, “whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.”

Stop and think about it for a moment- if you are a child of God, you will NEVER die! Yes, you may give up your current body, but only to receive a celestial one that will never decay. One billion years and more after you leave this earth, you will still exist. All your friends and family who are in the Lord will still be with you. Now that’s good news!

Our Master assures us of this thus: “Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die – ever…” (John 11:26, NLT). Elsewhere, He says: “I assure you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death – ever!” (John 8:51,NLT). How blessed we are to believe in Jesus. Halleluyah!

Lord thank you for the hope of eternal life in Christ Jesus. I believe in it. I expect it. I rejoice in it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
