“And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith…”
If you have ever engaged the services of a fitness coach, you’d find it very easy to understand today’s article. Even if that person is coaching one hundred different people, he may not give them all the same exercise routine or diet. Why? The coach understands that they have different needs. While one person may want to lose weight, another person may want to lose tummy fat and another might want to build muscles.
The same goes for spiritual growth. It is important that you understand the areas that you need to grow and exercise yourself. The entire counsel of God’s word is for you, but you should know what areas you are weak and need to pay special attention to. In today’s text, Paul talks about the Philippian church experiencing progress and joy in the faith.
There must have been a way to assess their progress; A systematic training curriculum. It was obvious from Paul’s letter to the Corinthian church that they needed to grow in the giving grace. Paul sent Titus to them for that purpose.
See 2 Cor 8: 6,7: “Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also. Therefore, as ye abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.”
We are admonished in Heb 12:12: “Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.”
Write down the areas you are weak and need to grow in sanctification. Study God’s word, listen to messages and seek the right counsel, paying special attention to those areas.
