“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”

(Joh 3:16).

If you are reading this, chances are that someone has attempted to preach to you at one time or the other. You may have heard different sermons, but what really is the gospel?

The gospel is that God has fulfilled His plan to accept the death of Jesus as sacrifice for the sins of the world, and has ever since bestowed righteousness on all who believe (John 3:16).

It is obvious throughout the bible that righteousness can only be attained by grace. According to Eph 2:8,9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” This text also goes to prove that no works are required as a prerequisite. In other words, the only thing you need to do to be saved is believe in Jesus.

The fact is that salvation is a gift we receive from God and as such, no one can boast about it.  “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God iseternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom 6:23).

“Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law” (Rom 3:27.28).

When we get to heaven, we are not going to beat our chests about how carefully we had to walk the straight and narrow road to get there; we will see Jesus, and realize that if not for His Grace we could never have made it there.

Preach the gospel to yourself and to others today.
