“When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, Will you give me a drink?… Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you wold have asked him and he would have given you living water..”
There are some discussions you have with people that don’t seem to go at all in the direction you expect. You start talking about A, and before you know, you’re on to X,Y,Z. Sometimes you ask yourself: ‘How did we get here?’
The Samaritan woman must have felt that way at some point. She was lulled into a conversation about water, and the next thing you know, she’s evangelising Christ to her entire city. She may not have known the turn the conversation would take. But Jesus knew. He planned it.
Dear Christian, you already know that you should preach the gospel, but today, we will talk about your approach to preaching the gospel.
One thing you must do is preach to people like you actually want them to listen to you, and not just because you want to fulfil all righteousness. Be kind and approachable and start from something they can relate with. Just like Jesus, you can use casual conversations to launch a message about eternity. We are not talking about being creative about the message, but about the presentation.
Did you also notice the role of spiritual discernment in this scenario? Jesus knew by the Spirit, how many times she had been married. That opened her up even more to what he had to say. Administrations of the Spirit are not just for you to feel cool; they are for evangelism. Your spiritual senses are sharpened when you step out and do the work of the ministry.
DO THIS: Be more intentional about your evangelism. Plan ahead.
