“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth”

In our last article we agreed that it’s alright to be happy when you receive material things as long as you realize that your joy should never come from them. A Christian is never depressed because he is broke. He is joyful regardless of the state of his pocket. We also established that our relationships with friends and family should be placed above things.

But the most important point we made was that our joy must be dependent on one thing and one thing alone-eternal life in Christ Jesus. If you believe in Jesus, then you will live forever! The end of your life can be the beginning of a new eternal and enduring life. This is the good news! The best you’ve ever heard.

Some people think that Christianity is about grudgingly letting go of the things that give you pleasure for a boring, straight jacket life. Nothing could be farther from the truth. God hasn’t come to stop your joy, but to give you the opportunity to be united with true joy for eternity.

Imagine if you’ve been playing with toy cars, and having the time of your life. Then someone gives you a real car. Won’t you be excited? Or would you say: ‘You just want to spoil my fun and make me unhappy!’

God is better. God is more. With him, you can be eternally, abundantly satisfied (Psalm 36:8, Psalm 65:4, John 3:16).
