“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”

(Jas 5:16).

Fervent prayer is enthusiastic and intense. This is as opposed to an indifferent, cold or lifeless approach to prayer. Fervent prayer is not presented as if there were no vitality or power in it.

We are told that this kind of prayer avails much. The Greek word translated avails actually means prevails (and is translated in other texts as such). Fervent prayers prevail. A fervent approach is the approach that brings results!

Paul says: “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord” (Romans 12:11).

By ‘business’ he actually meant ‘diligence’ (the same Greek word was so translated in verse 8). In other words, we are admonished thus: “Don’t be found wanting in respect to diligence.”

Set a goal to be diligent in your prayer life especially this coming week. You’re assured that you’d have more results if and when you do. Halt the operations of the enemy over your life. Put an end to the streak of nonchalance in your life. Stir up some fire today!
