“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned”
The word, August has two meanings. The more popular definition is the eighth month of the year. August also means prestigious, glorious, majestic. Those names can be ascribed to Jesus. But why do we worship Jesus so reverently?
Let us also take a look at Rom 5:14:
“Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.”
So this tells us that because of Adam’s disobedience, sin and death entered into the world. When we say Adam, we are referring to mankind. While you might not have been at the Garden of Eden physically, the moment you were born into this world, you were doomed to condemnation, because you were born into sin.
This is a big problem. 6,000 years ago the very first man sinned and it affects my life. Wow! Adam was representing the entire human race, and a result we all became sinners. But fast forward to some 4,000 after, and by God’s plan and power, a virgin gives birth to son who is to save the world. He is born without sin and lives a perfect life.
The only person, who could have condemned us, came to die for us. The bible in Joh 3:17 says: “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” Glory to God!
God did not want to condemn the world, so he fulfilled the righteous requirements of the law by shedding the blood of Jesus on our behalf. How majestic, how glorious, how August!
In John 8:1-11, a woman had just been caught in the act of adultery, and the law of Moses commanded that the people caught in the act of adultery be stoned to death. So they brought this woman to Jesus. His response? He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her (John 8:7).
After all the accusers has left one after the other, he asked her: “Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?” to which she replied, “No man, Lord.”
Then Jesus said unto her, “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” Halleluyah! He was without sin, he had the right to cast the first stone, but he did not.
Jesus is August because he laid down his life for us. John 15:13 says: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” His accusers thought they killed him, but little did they know that he laid his life for all us. He had a choice, and he chose us! Halleluyah, Jesus is August. Worship him today!
