“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Gal 6:1,2)
One major thing many people ignore when dealing with issues is the power of accountability. What they do not realize is that secrecy is one thing that tightens the hold of sin. When you’re struggling with pornography and nobody knows about it, it is more difficult to stop. But when you open up to your pastor or a brother in Christ whom you respect, the battle is halfway fought already.
Christianity was never meant to be a lone ranger affair. Gal 6:1 says: “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” Your brothers and sisters in the body of Christ are there to help you. Don’t suffer in silence simply because you’re ashamed. Find someone you trust who can counsel you and pray along with you. If you’re in a dating relationship, make sure you both build a culture of accountability with your spiritual leaders.
You see why it is important you belong to a local church. There is a lot of talk going on around about why you don’t need to belong to a local assembly, but that is not at all consistent with the truth of scripture. The body of Christ is your defence against habits. Don’t be a loner. Find a good local assembly and remain committed there. If you’re going through a challenge, talk to someone you trust. Don’t die in silence. Get help.
