And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross

(Phil 2:8).

While evil exists because of the freewill given to man, eternal life exists because of Jesus’ expressed freewill to see sinners reconciled back to God. Today’s article will help you understand the basic truth that Jesus himself loves you, and make you even more appreciative of his redemptive work.

Let’s take another look at Philippians 2, starting from verse 6 this time.

“Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!”

Look at this! No one forced Jesus to die for you! He did it of his own free will. Nowhere in the scriptures do you get the idea that Our Lord Jesus was forced to die for us.

In fact, Revelations 1:5 makes it clearer: “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood”.

Hallelujah! Jesus loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood. He willingly surrendered to the Father’s will. Jesus himself said in the book of John 10:17-18: “Therefore doth my father love me, because I  lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my father.”

Jesus chose to lay down his life for you. This should inspire thanksgiving in you, and teach you to lay down your life for the brethren.
