What does the devil want?

“And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;”

(Php 1:25)

Do you know that Satan’s number one strategy against a believer is to corrupt his understanding of the word of God?  Every time he tried to tempt in scriptures, he attacked or challenged people’s understanding of the word.

In Gen 3:1, he told the woman: “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” That was the same stunt he tried to pull with Jesus many years later in Mat 4:3: “The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

The devil’s goal is not to hurt your marriage, health, business or children, but to hit you where it hurts the most-in your understanding of God’s word. He knows that once he thwarts your understanding of God’s word, he can have access to any other area of your life. “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path (Mat 13:19).

With this in mind, your number one weapon against the enemy is your understanding of God’s word. Seek to understand God’s word for yourself. Attend a church where the word is rightly divided and don’t take for granted times of personal bible study.

This knowledge doesn’t just have implications for us as individuals but as members of the body of Christ. Our number one weapon is not ‘die by fire’ prayers but accurate teaching of the word.
