“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call”

(Act 2:38,39).

The bible speaks repeatedly about the promise of the Spirit. The promise of the Spirit was the promise of salvation. In today’s text, we see the promise of the Holy Ghost referred to as the promise of salvation.

We see a similar phrase here: Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ;that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith (Gal 3:13,14).
By faith in Christ hanging on a tree, we received the promised HolySpirit. In other words, the promised Spirit is one crucial reason Christ died. Eph 1:13 says:  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise
What then is the summary of these texts? The promise of salvation was fulfilled in God given us the HolySpirit. Receiving the HolySpirit means to be born again. You receive the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus Christ by receiving the HolySpirit. This is why the HolySpirit couldn’t come until Jesus died and rose again. The gift of the HolySpirit is the gift of redemption. Everyone that believes the gospel, receives the HolyGhost and becomes born again.
