How to have a great year

“There’s nothing new on this earth.
Year after year it’s the same old thing.
Does someone call out, “Hey, this is new”?
Don’t get excited—it’s the same old story”

(Eccl 1:9, The Message).

Welcome to the year 2018! Praise Jesus that you’re alive to see today and well enough to read this. Wherever you are in the world, the excitement is most likely palpable, accompanied by a renewed hope that everything will be new simply because the calendar date has changed. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that isn’t how things work. Despite evidence to the contrary, many people especially believers, still grasp tightly to the notion that everything will be new and all their troubles will go away simply because it’s a new year. That is not the right mind set to have. You must step into this year understanding that the year would be what you make of it.

Prophetic words spoken at your cross over service and hands laid on you by your pastor should not be taken for granted. But those alone are not enough to cause the year to be better. What instructions have you been given in the place of prayer? What has been a burning passion or desire in your heart? What goals do you hope to accomplish? Step up and work on them. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Don’t let the fire burn out three months from now. Stay responsible. Stay woke. That is the first step to having a great year.
