“…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16b

Today’s text is a powerful revelation on how to prevail in prayers. We are told: “The prayers of a righteous man will avail much”.  However, without the proper understanding, there is a tendency that a text of this nature, which is meant to give us great assurance will bring great discouragement. This is because it tells us on one hand that prevailing in prayer is possible, but on the other that it is righteous men who prevail in prayer. The question of the hour will then be: “Who is righteous man?”.

To be clear, if you think that a righteous man is one who is faultless in thoughts and action, no such man exists. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one”. Romans 3: 10. Our thoughts aren’t always perfect. Even our motives for doing good aren’t always perfect. So if righteousness is a status we attain through moral excellence we can all forget about getting our prayers answered. But it isn’t. Righteousness has become a gift. Instead of something to earn, it is a gift to receive.

How so? Romans 5:17  For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.).” So the perspective of the believer must be that Christ died his death, he has received righteousness as a free status in Christ, and so he can pray confidently  as one accepted before the father. If  you are in Christ, you are righteous and your prayers prevail. Go ahead and win in prayer today!

I’m righteous in Christ Jesus. My prayers prevail. Circumstances change because I pray. Miracles abound because I pray, and even today. Thank you Father.
