1 Corinthians 12:1
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
The Greek word for ignorant in this text means to lack knowledge or understanding of a thing.
Paul in essence is saying, I won’t have you continue to lack understanding of spiritual gifts.
Some people have this disinclination but apostle Paul says we should not ignore the subject nor the manifestations.
In 1 Corinthians 1:4-8, Paul here is talking about supernatural manifestations. Functioning in spiritual gifts is not something God is indifferent about that is why in verse 4 he begins by thanking God for them in respect to spiritual gifts. God is happy when we do and this is why Paul says that we should desire spiritual gifts.
One key reason why we should function in spiritual gifts is because it confirms the testimony of Christ. A person who speaks in other tongues and prophesies confirms the resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 1:6).
Yes, it’s a big deal!
Prayer: As we step out today, we are not ignorant of spiritual gifts and so we embrace and function in them.
