“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also”.

2Tim. 2:2

If a preacher ever tells you that he is teaching you something that no one has ever taught before, you should run far away, because such information is very likely false. What sort of revelation could neither Paul nor the other Apostles have known about?

Like we said yesterday, the household of God is built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.

See 1Cor. 3:10: “According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.”

Don’t just allow anything be preached to you. Don’t just swallow everything you hear hook, line and sinker. There is a way to rightly divide the word of truth. Measure the things you hear against what the word of God says. Let Paul’s admonition in 2 Tim. 1:13 ring true to you.

“Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.”

See also 1 Timothy 4:16: “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” Staying true to doctrine is a serious matter, Paul seems to connote here that your salvation and the salvation of people that you teach depends largely on the right doctrine.
