And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues (Mark 16:17).
Theologically, there are two types of men and in these men are two levels of authority. We have the first Adam and the second Adam. After God created the first Adam, the bible says: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth (Genesis 1:28). But the man in Christ has much more. He is blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenlies (Ephesians 1:3).
This blessing clearly includes authority. The bible says about the resurrected Christ: “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.” In the second Adam, we function in the authority (that is, in the name) of Jesus. This is far greater than the authority the first Adam had in the earthly realm. The bible says, “that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of things in heaven, of things on earth, and of things under the earth…”(Phil 2: 10). Friends, we were created for so much more than the ordinary life that is in the first Adam. We are joint heirs with Christ.
By faith in the name of Jesus, Peter commanded a man that had been lame from his mother’s womb to rise up and walk. The man leaped, walked and ran! When people wondered how Peter was able to do what he did, he said: “And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all” (Act 3:16). Walk in the realities of the second Adam. Use the name!
