“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Do you really know who Jesus is? Is the Jesus you know a figment of your imagination or the Jesus of the bible? For example, what do you think the Jesus you have known would do if He saw a woman who had been married five times? Not just that; she was not living with any of the five husbands. Most likely, the Jesus you know would have judge on the spot, plaguing her with some serious disease. At least, this is the picture of Jesus that is often painted.
But look at the real life scenario of Jesus with a Samaritan woman who was in such a situation in John chapter four. His focus was was beyond morality. It was life. “Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water” (John 4:10). This confirms that eternity is first of all about what you believe.
Moments later, we see the woman running away- not out of fear but out of excitement. She couldn’t wait to bring the whole city to Jesus. Jesus had said He was the messiah. She believed it. The real Jesus has our faith as His priority and not sins. Sins are only a problem when we do not believe that He paid for them. He paid so that those who believe will not perish but have everlasting life.
