“Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart”(2 Corinthians 3:3).
As Jesus rode on a donkey, people sang his praise and said: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord…”. The Pharisees heard it and asked Jesus to rebuke them. “And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out” (Luke 19:40).
John made a similar comment when he said: “And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham” (Matthew 3:9).
Friends it has happened. God has raised up stones as children of Abraham. Paul, speaking of many Jews says: “ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith…” Romans 11:20. Though John may have pointed to the pebbles on the hills as he spoke, he was referring to the Gentiles. We who were at that time stone-dead in sin, have been made alive in Christ.
The prophecy of Ezekiel has been fulfilled which said: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36: 26).
We have been quickened from death. We have received new hearts. The laws of the Lord are written on the fleshy tables of our heart by the Spirit of God.
