THEY ARE DARKNESS

“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:13‬

God’s ability to save man is deposited in the gospel. This means that while we must consistently thank God for men being translated into the kingdom of His Son, we must recognize that the process is initiated by man via the message of the gospel.

All the unbeliever needs to do is hear and believe the gospel to be saved. We’ve communicated about the urgency for the spread of the gospel as well as practical steps we can take while evangelizing.

For the next few days, we will look at how scriptures describe the man without Christ- the unbeliever. One thing that the scripture does for us is give us a proper understanding of biblical subjects and concepts.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:16‬

One recurring word that the scriptures associate with the unbeliever is the word ‘darkness’. Apostle Paul in several of his writings speaks of the unbeliever on the basis of darkness. The striking thing is that Apostle Paul rarely say they are in the dark. He calls them darkness.

“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:8‬

As true as it is that we are light in the Lord, it is equally true that unbelievers are darkness. This is so because their nature can’t be separated from their location. The core of their being is dark, it is their identity!

Earlier in his letter, Apostle Paul had urged believers not to walk as other Gentiles (unsaved Gentiles) do- with their understanding darkened. He says their understanding is darkened.

“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:17-18‬. They are darkness, their understanding is darkened.

It is our responsibility as believers to turn on the light in the hearts of unbelievers. Via the gospel, the light of God permeates and lightens every dark heart (2 Cor 5:18-19). This is our ministry.
Go out today shining the light you’ve received in Christ!

Say This: I cause light to shine in the hearts of men. Via the message of the gospel, the light of God permeates and lightens every dark heart.
