“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” 2 Cor 4:4
Man is a spirit, he has a soul and lives in a body. This simple and seemingly inconsequential detail carries a lot of weight. When we say the unbeliever is darkness, lost, dead or blind, we are speaking about the spirit. The spirit is who the man really is! Although man has a soul- an intellectual faculty and emotions, he is not the soul. The body, on the other hand, is just a covering for the man (the spirit).
We’ve seen from scriptures how the unbeliever is darkness, lost, and dead. Today, we’ll take it a step further by looking at what it means when we say that the unbeliever is blind.
Our opening scripture tells us the unbeliever is one who is yet to see the beauty and glory of God in Christ. Apostle Paul says the gospel is glorious, and so anyone who is yet to see it that way is blind. Apostle Paul informs us of the entity behind the ‘blinding’. He says the god of this world-the devil- is responsible.
However, via God’s word, we know that the devil doesn’t and shouldn’t have the final say about the unbeliever’s eternal destination. 2 Cor 4:6 says “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” The devil blinds, God shines light! The light that God shines finds practical expression when we GO. God has chosen to save man via the gospel’s message.
Let’s see one more scripture. In Acts 26, Apostle Paul informs King Agrippa about his conversion and his call to the ministry. He reports the spectacular encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus. Then he reports the commission that Christ gave him.
“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.” Acts 26:18
God causes blind eyes to see the beauty, glory and worth of Christ by sending people to tell the good news. We’ve been sent and we must go. Do this today!
Say This: I open blind eyes via the message of the gospel. I turn men from darkness into light. I loose men from the power of satan unto God.
