Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matt 5:6

Hunger and thirst are the strongest of our appetites. To hunger and thirst after righteousness means for a person’s “deepest cravings to be after spiritual blessings.” The key theme here is ‘satisfaction’.

Throughout the Old Testament, we can see people express hunger and thirst for God. A good example is David. Examine his writings below;

“… the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures..” Psalm 36:7-9

“As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.” Psa 17:15

“My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches”. Psalm 63:5-6

Jesus cried out in John 7:37-39, offering drink to everyone that thirsts! He satisfies us with His salvation by His Spirit. He regenerates the soul of the sinner, and even keeps the Christian yearning for more.

Meditate on these words today. Let your thirst for God be satisfied by the knowledge of His indwelling presence in you today.

DO THIS: Enjoy fellowship with God this morning. Demonstrate the fact that your greatest satisfaction is found in Him as you worship and pray.
