OUR UNION IN HIM: FRUITFULNESS

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me”.
John 15:4

We started off yesterday by saying that figures of speech like ‘body’, ‘household’, and ‘tree’ are used in the bible to describe our union with Christ as believers.

There is something practical about these ‘figures’ that pass an idea about our union with Christ.

For instance, regarding a ‘tree’, we reckon that the union of the branches of a tree with its vine is necessary for both life and fruitfulness.

We must therefore  see our fruitfulness in your union with Christ.

He is the vine and we are the branches. When we walk in the consciousness of our union with Him, fruitfulness will become effortless.

Paul puts it this way:
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh”
Galatians 5:16

We must stop seeing fruitfulness in our Christian walk as something independent of our union with Christ.

“… for without me ye can do nothing” John 15:5.

Bearing fruit is not something you do in your capacity or to ‘prove a point’ to God.

It’s the result of trusting in God. A man who is trusting will pray. A man who will pray will not fall into temptation.

Going for days without praying is a luxury you cannot afford. Your fruitfulness is in your union with Christ and in the consciousness of same.

Abide in the Vine today. Walk in the Spirit.
