“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord”
You need to get over the idea that there are certain levels of spiritual commitment that are just not for you.
Some people appear to have a limit in their minds and are comfortable that way. But there is really nothing ‘cool’ about being ‘cold’ spiritually.
It is an oxymoron to be a lukewarm Christian. Every Christian should be vibrant, serious and Sober.
To be Sober means to be serious; watchful; temperate; moderate regarding indulgence of appetite; grave.
One of the most reccurring phrases in the New Testament, especially in the writings of Paul, is BE SOBER.
It is not an instruction for spiritual leaders alone! Yes, spiritual leaders are instructed to be sober (1 Tim 3:2, Titus 1:7-8), but so is everyone else (1 Thess 5:6,8, 1 Peter 1:13, 4:7).
There is no age restriction to this. It is for elderly men (Titus 2:2), young men (Titus 2:6), elderly women and young women (Titus 2:3-4).
This instruction is repeated too often to be ignored! You ought to be serious and diligent in your devotion to the Lord. Go the extra mile!
Today’s text urges you and I to be fervent in Spirit. Friend, let there be some fervour in your approach to spiritual things.
Let there be fervour in your prayer and word study life. Take the limits off!
