For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.                                     Act 20:27

Paul was not deterred by fear or desire for popularity in preaching.

He knew that the gospel’s message, in its true unadulterated form was not widely received at that time. Yet he openly and boldly declared Christ’s message, despite impending criticism.

The Greek word translated “shunned” also means to disguise or compromise. Paul did not water the message down.

For instance, Paul said to the Galatians: “And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased”
Galatians 5:11.

The offence of the cross? Friends, if you’re going to stand for the truth, you will be persecuted.

Circumcision was the prevailing doctrine in Paul’s day. But it was wrong notwithstanding.

Paul had a choice to either ‘go with the flow’ or face persecution standing for the truth.

Thank God he did not shun to declare the truth to us. Where would we have been today?

Had Martin Luther not taken a firm stand, where would we have been today? What about you?

Are you like several who reaped the benefits of the bravery and persecution of others but will never lift a finger themselves?

Do not shun the truth. Do not water it down for the sake of popularity or fame. Be faithful with the word.
