“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock…..”                                            Acts 20:28

Today’s article is especially directed at ministers of the gospel. Paul’s advice to you, dear minister, is that you: “Take heed to yourself…..” Acts 20:28.

He repeated the same instruction to Timothy thus: “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee”
1Timothy 4:16

A man of God must take heed to himself lest he becomes a hypocrite.

He needs to be saved as much as the people to whom he ministers. The very words he preaches, he needs.

Listen to yourself man of God!
We must be on guard. This is to be given first place before even ministry.

There are temptations that are consistent with most preachers of the gospel, such as competition, jealousy, inordinate ambition and pride arising from flattery. To prevent this, a minister must be on guard. His motives must be constantly reexamined.

To the reader who wonders how this applies to him since he is no lay minister, I say that you have a part to play. To you, Paul says: “Brethren, pray for us” 1 Thessalonians 5:25.

That man of God you criticize ever so readily, have you prayed for him before? Do you pray for your Pastor?

Let Paul’s instruction stay with you from hence, and guide your response the next time you hear something untoward about a minister.
