“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers…”                                                                                             Acts 20:28

Whilst people may be appointed to ministerial duties by a local church (an administrative fact), the reality is that one is called and qualified by the Holy Ghost.

This is why we are admonished thus: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men”
Colossians 3:23.

You must therefore take heed, knowing that you’re ultimately accountable to Him.

Since we do not see the Lord physically as we go about our duties, it might be easy to forget this. Keeping it in mind must therefore be intentional.

We are not carnal people who only act properly when eyes are on us. As servants in God’s vineyard, Paul’s general admonition yet applies to us:

“Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God”
Colossians 3:22 (See also Ephesians 6:5-6).

As followers, we must also revere our ministry gifts as people the Holy Ghost has made overseers. They might have excesses, but they did not call themselves.

We owe it to the one who called them to not despise them.

Paul says to us: “And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves”
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13.
