Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
In today’s text, we are instructed to be willing to associate with people of low degree.
Have you seen people who are not respectful to elderly people who are poor just because of their financial status?
It is a carnal culture to greet people younger than you are ‘properly’ solely because they are rich but disregard older people who work at your office as cleaners or security men.
Today’s instruction is straightforward. It says we should not be conceited. It says we should ‘mind not high things but condescend’.
The bible says: “Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?”
You might come across a few people who are poor in this world but they believe in Jesus. Such persons are family to you! Come down from your high horse. Be kind.
Paul says: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who…made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men”
If the Lord could show such humility on our behalf, so can we. His humility is to be an example to us all the days of our lives.
SAY THIS: Humility is a fruit of my Spirit. It is discerned in my words and actions. The humility of Christ causes me to be humble.
