“As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them”
What was the first thing that came to mind when you saw this topic?
Perhaps you expected to see five steps to hearing from God. Interestingly, we don’t see such steps in the bible.
In fact, throughout scripture, every time God wanted to communicate with people they heard him.
In Exodus 3:1-3, God wanted to speak to Moses. He caught his attention with a burning bush that was not burnt.
Moses did not even know God at that time. God spoke to heathen kings; He spoke to Pharaoh in a dream and revealed the interpretation to him through Joseph.
He spoke to Belshazzar with a strange handwriting on the wall. He spoke to Balam through a donkey.
How much more you with the Holy Spirit on your inside? News flash! God can get your attention.
You must trust in God’s ability to communicate with you more than your ability to hear Him.
In Acts 13, the disciples were fasting and praying when they heard God’s clear instructions concerning Barnabas and Saul.
It may have come as a prophecy from one person, but they all knew that God was speaking.
You don’t need five steps to hearing from God. You don’t need to climb up a high mountain and somersault several times.
God’s Spirit lives in you. He desires to communicate with you. Yield yourself to His Spirit with an open heart and a willingness to obey.
There is something else you must understand. We don’t have to teach children to hear; they are born hearing. It comes naturally to them.
What you must learn to do is respond when God speaks. Sometimes God gives an instruction, but because we haven’t learnt to respond, we miss out on what He is saying. Don’t be that way.
When you pray, have a notepad beside you, expecting to hear what God is saying. When He tells you to do something, do it. This is how to grow in spiritual intelligence.
As you pray today, practice listening to God. Have a notepad beside you expecting to hear from Him.
