“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:”
Yesterday, we learnt about legal and vital realities. We realized that because we are sanctified legally, we can actually and vitally grow in sanctification.
Until a believer becomes conscious of these two phases of revelation, there will be a haziness in his walk and a lack of solidity in his thinking and living.
We examined Apostle Peter’s letter in the first part of this teaching. Let’s look at how Apostle Paul addresses legal and vital realities in his letters.
“For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”
In the verses above, Paul informs the believers at Colosse that they are ‘dead’ and their lives are hid with Christ in God. This depicts the legal reality of the believer.
The vital aspect of this narrative in clearly seen in verse 5 where Apostle Paul instructs the man in Christ to mortify (put to death) his members.
“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:”
Hence, Paul is saying because you are dead, you can put to death the deeds of the sinful nature.
It is the believer’s responsibility to make vital what God has made legal in him!
