“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;”
It is important we view unbelievers through the lens of the word. The scripture shows us the true state of the unbeliever.
Our opening scripture highlights our state before receiving the life of Christ. It says we were dead in trespasses and sins.
This is the current state of the man without Christ. The fact that we say they are dead doesn’t mean they are ‘useless’.
We can learn from them concerning many subjects (academically or even career wise) and even be ‘inspired’ by them in several fields even in their dead state.
They might have money to buy anything this world can offer or even influence governments in several national issues, yet the true state of their spirit is dead.
They being dead doesn’t mean they’re immobile. The second verse of Ephesians chapter 2 talks about the fact that they WALKED according to the course of this world.
“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:”
So there was movement, but in the region of the dead.
The man without Christ is dead! This must generate compassion in our heart.
Rom 5:12 says “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
This was the state of every man, but in Christ Jesus, all who believe have received a gift by grace.
Rom 5:15 says But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.”
Hallelujah! Through the offence of one, all were made dead, through the obedience of Jesus, all who believe are made alive in Christ. This is the gospel! This is what we are to announce to dead men. His death was for our sins, His resurrection brought forth life eternal.
SAY THIS: I am overwhelmed with compassion for the man without Christ. I turn many from death to life via the gospel. Hallelujah!
