“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
One central truth that makes us believers is Christ’s deity. The deity of Christ is the dividing line between our faith and the ‘religions’ of the world.
Jesus is celebrated by many as ‘a great prophet’, a role model and so on. For the believer, He is worth more than any of these. We worship Jesus as God. That’s who He is!
The bible is replete with the revelation of His deity from the scriptures to the gospel to the epistles.
In the scriptures, it was written of Him “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”
This is beautiful. This is powerful. He is the ‘mighty God’ and Everlasting father’.
In the gospel, (Matthew 22: 41-46) Jesus quizzes the Pharisees about who the Messiah is.
Verses 43-44 of Matthew 22 says: “He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?”
In other words and much simpler terms, He is Lord.
In the epistles, amongst several is 1 Timothy 3:16 that says:
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh…”
Titus 2:13 calls him “the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ”.
Romans 9:5 calls him “God blessed forever”.
The bible is clear about His identity. He is more than a great prophet. He is more than a hero. He is more than a role model. He is God. Worship Him for who He is.
SAY THIS: I believe Jesus is more than a hero, role model or a prophet. I believe Jesus is God. I worship Him for who He is.
