“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you
Evangelism is just the first step in fulfilling what is called the great commission. We have been called to make disciples.
This means you must be willing to continue with people for their progress and joy in the faith. That is what the Lord Jesus was talking about in today’s text.
The body of Christ grows when every part supplies what it ought to. The same way other Believers have helped you grow, you also have the responsibility to disciple others. That is your role, dear Believer!
How then can you disciple others? First of all, you must grow yourself. You must understand what you believe enough to teach it. You must study God’s word like someone who is going to teach it.
When you’re in church, don’t listen passively. Take notes. Be familiar with the material enough to teach it to potential students.
Secondly, you must be willing to continue with them. Don’t forget the purpose of your friendships. After seeing a movie or watching a match, pray together, study God’s word together.
No matter how comfortable you are in that friendship, you must never be uncomfortable to do spiritual things together.
This is important for your growth and that of the other person. There should be people who depend on you to help them grow spiritually. This will happen when You believe that your greatest contribution in people’s lives is Christ… even when they do not realize it.
You must also pray for them. Paul says in Gal 4:19: “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you”.
Let the testimony of Epaphras be yours as well.
“Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.”
You must be cautious and intentional in your dealings with people, realizing that life was truly given for them.
Take note of topics in the Bible where you need to grow. Consciously work towards gathering and applying knowledge in such areas.
